It is probably time to consider buying a new mattress
The earliest beds ever slept on were thought to have belonged to the Ancient Egyptians in around 8000 BC, and unless you were very wealthy (The very rich slept in very ornate carved beds, sometimes decorated with gold gilt), you had to sleep on little more than a straw mat covered with coarse linen.
Thankfully, modern beds provide a much broader range of options for the more discerning adult sleeper to choose from (Unless you really do prefer straw mats). One of the first considerations to take into account when deciding which bed is the right size for you is the size of the bed. Single beds usually measure around 39 inches by 75 inches, and are usually suitable for smaller rooms where there is limited space. If you prefer to stretch out however, there are single beds which can be converted into Double beds at night. Double beds measure around 54 inches by 75 inches, while King Size beds measure roughly 76-78 inches by 84 inches. And if you really do have space to stretch out in, California king size beds measure seventy-two by eighty-four inches!
Ideally, you should have a bed which not only fits into the room, but which also accommodates the sleeper (Or sleepers). If your room is particularly small, there is probably little point in searching for king size beds which will not allow you to use the room during the day time or even give you enough floor space in which to get dressed in the morning. One solution is to use wall beds. These are double beds or king size beds which fold neatly away into the wall. King size beds and double beds which convert into sofas in the day are also available, and futons are a handy alternative to single beds for those wishing to save on space. Another key thing to remember is to choose a bed which will not restrict the sleeper from movement or a bed which is too small or short for the sleeper.
Choosing the right bedframe and mattress is also important in terms of health and wellbeing. Orthopedic beds use a range of systems such as sprung mattresses and memory foam to assist a good night’s sleep for those with back problems or other issues, and are available in a range of sizes from single beds to king size beds. Double beds with split mattresses are also available for those who wish to have features such as electrical mobility, but only on one side of the bed. Other factors also need to be taken into account, such as allergies and lifestyle changes. If you are sleeping less than usual, or if your sleeping needs have changed in any way for the worse, it is probably time to consider buying a new mattress and even a new bed, if this is where the problem lies.
There are many different sizes of bed available on the market
“And so, to bed…”
There are many different sizes of bed available on the market, ranging from Single bedsto Double beds, to King Size beds, all the way up to California king size beds, which measure a huge seventy-two by eighty-four inches. One of the first considerations will probably be the dimensions of the room the bed is to go in. Ideally, you should try to get the largest size bed possible. If you are living in a bedsit or if your room is a box room for example, king size beds or double beds are still available which either fold up into the wall or double up as sofas during the day, for those wishing to economize on space. Single beds or twin beds, as they are sometimes called, can also be used for the same purpose. Daybeds are single beds with a three-sided frame which can be converted into a seating area during the day. These solutions are particularly helpful if the room you are using is a study or living area which needs to be converted into a sleeping space at night. Another important consideration to take into account is the build of the sleeper. If the room can accommodate the bed, this is good. But if the bed cannot accommodate the sleeper, then prepare for a very restless night!
Also think about how healthy your bed is. Where you sleep has a big impact on how you sleep, and a faulty bed or mattress, as well as the wrong type of bed or mattress, can contribute to a range of problems, including broken sleep and back pain. Orthopedic beds come in a range of sizes from single beds to king size beds, and double beds with split mattresses with features such as electrical adjustability are also available for those sleeping with a partner who does not wish to be woken up.
When you are choosing a bed for a child, make sure it is the right size. There are single beds which are specifically designed for very small children and come in a range of designs and colours. If he or she has her own bed and a structured sleeping pattern, this leads to healthier sleep later in life, so it is important to set guidelines in place and to choose the right bed and mattress. If this is done, then there will also be less chance of being disturbed in the night by a small person who cannot sleep because their bed is uncomfortable. Also consider how high up the bed is. Obviously, bunk beds are ideal for older children around the age of ten or eleven, but very young children will probably sleep better (And more safely) closer to the ground. There are also convertible beds for young children in the “in-between stages” between sleeping in a cot and a bed. These are cots which convert into single beds for toddlers, so that the bed can grow with your child.
When deciding which size of bed to choose from
The average person spends two thirds of their life asleep, and the likelihood is that this will have been spent in a bed. Sleep is important to overall health and wellbeing, so it makes sense to choose a bed which is suitable for your sleeping needs.
When deciding which size of bed to choose from, you will need to make sure that it will fit into the room –and that the person or persons sleeping in it will fit into the bed! The standard measurements for Single beds or twin beds are 39 inches by 75 inches. Double beds are 54 inches by 75 inches, and King Size beds are 76-78 inches by 84 inches, so if the sleeper is of a large build or particularly tall, there won’t be any problems with feet hanging off the edge of the bed or nasty surprises tumbling out of bed in the night because there isn’t enough room. It is recommended that you also take into account any particular heath requirements you or a fellow sleeper might have, such as allergies or back problems.
Orthopedic beds come in a variety of sizes ranging from single beds to king size beds and use systems such as memory foam or springing systems to help support the sleeper. Split mattresses are also available for those sleeping in double beds or king size beds, which allow one half of the bed to be customized specifically to one sleeper’s requirements, while the other sleeper can rest undisturbed. Electric adjustable king size beds, double bedsor single bedsare also useful for those living with mobility issues such as elder persons who might find it difficult sitting up in bed.
The dimensions of a room also need to be taken into account, too. While king size beds might look like an appealing prospect, consider the logistics first. Do you really want to be tiptoeing around the edge of the bed in the morning to get ready? Perhaps it is limited space which is the problem. If this is the case -for example if you live in a bedsit- then consider sofas which fold out into king size beds.
There may be other considerations too, such as storage space. Double beds are available which come with drawers underneath, or for children single beds known as “cabin beds” have cupboards underneath which double up as great places to play hide and seek! Double beds are also available which can fold into the wall. These are a great solution if you are looking for ways to economize on space, particularly if you are in a room which needs to double up as a study or a living area during the day.
Beds are available in a wide range of standard and non-standard sizes
Beds are available in a wide range of standard and non-standard sizes and ensuring that you find the right size of bed for you is just as important as making sure you get the right mattress construction, level of firmness and correct fitting.
Standard bed sizes vary from Single Beds, to Double Beds, to King size Beds, although there may be some minor variations in name for some beds. Many bed manufacturers will also sell queen size beds and some may also stock extra long Single Beds. The height of a bed can vary widely and depends upon the thickness of the mattress as well as how high the frame is.
As a general rule, purchase the largest bed which will comfortably fit into your bedroom and still allow for sufficient floor space. Even if you are a single sleeper, but you have the extra room to stretch out with Double Beds instead of Single Beds, purchase Double Beds or King size Beds instead as ideally, the more room you have to stretch out, the better. Similarly, if there are two people sharing a bed, consider opting for King size Beds rather than Double Beds. Increasing the size of your bed will affect the amount of room you need and your posture while you are sleeping, both of which are important factors to consider.
Single Beds, although allowing for more space in a room, are not ideal for adult sleepers as they do not give sufficient space for the sleeper to roll over from their back onto their front without having to shift their body to the side. This changing of positions can cause the sleeper to wake, resulting in disrupted sleep.
If there are two sleepers in the same bed, it is worth bearing in mind that, contrary to popular belief, Double Beds are in fact not double the size of Single Beds, meaning that two sleepers sharing the same bed in fact have less room than a single sleeper in Single Beds.
The next factor to consider is how long the bed is. It is important to realize that most manufacturer’s super king size beds and King size Beds will be around 3 inches longer than Double Beds or Single Beds. This is particularly significant for those who are taller; however it will be likely to reduce the space between the end of the bed and the adjacent wall or any bedroom furniture placed in front of it.
Super King size Beds are an option, but only depending on build. If you are not of a particularly large build, you may not need the extra space in which to move. However, if your room will accommodate a bed of this size, it is always an option worth considering.
Choosing the right size bed is an important consideration
The average person spends two thirds of their life in it. According to Feng Shui principles, where you put yours in a room can affect everything from your career to your relationship, and supermodel Linda Evangelista was famously quoted as saying she wouldn’t get out of hers for less than ten thousand dollars a day.
Beds are a big part of our lives, from the Single Beds we sleep in as children to the beds we use to furnish our rooms as adults. They are, quite literally, the places where dreams are made, so it is incredibly important that you choose the right one for your sleeping needs.
Choosing the right size bed is an important consideration, as you will not only want to make sure the room accommodates the bed –you will also want to ensure the bed accommodates the person or people sleeping in it, too. The standard measurements for twin or Single Beds are 39 inches by 75 inches, Double Beds are 54 inches by 75 inches, and King size Beds are 76-78 inches by 84 inches. When choosing the size of bed you think you will need, consider the dimensions of the room it will go in, depending on how much floor space you think you will need. Also consider your build and if necessary the build of the person sharing the bed, to avoid purchasing a bed which is too short or will not allow enough room for movement.
Buying the right mattress for your bed is important too, as you will want to ensure that you are buying the correct size mattress for your bed frame. Replacing old mattresses when they are worn out, as well as choosing the right type of mattress for your needs is important if you want to avoid back pain or sleep problems, such as trouble getting to sleep, trouble staying asleep or simply just not being able to nod off. Orthopedic beds may just refer to beds whose mattresses are a little firmer than most, so don’t be swayed by the name, and test your bed out properly before you buy to check it is comfortable for you.
In order to determine which type of bed will be suitable for you, there are a few factors you may need to consider. Do you have a partner you share a bed with? If so, it is recommended you get the largest bed possible, such as King size Beds or Double Beds, to allow you and your partner room to move about during the night. Next, you will also need to take into account health issues which may also apply to your sleeping partner; namely height, weight, allergies and posture concerns.
The style of bed also counts, too. Whether you’re looking for Single Beds or you are hoping to stretch out in King size Beds, check which design of bedframe will fit in best with the general appearance of the room. Is it a modern feel you’re going for? Or a more traditional look? Beds also come in a variety of types from divan to futon, so think about any issues you may have such as limited storage space.
Beds come in a wide variety of styles and sizes
The average person spends one third of their life asleep, and the likelihood is that the majority of this time will be spent in bed. With this in mind, it makes sense to choose the right bed for you and your needs.
Beds come in a wide variety of styles and sizes, from Single Beds to Double Beds, to King size Beds. One of the first things to think about when purchasing a bed will probably be whether or not it will fit into the room it is going to be in. Double Beds are an appealing choice to many customers, but if the room it is going to go in will only just about accommodate the size of the bed, there will be a very limited amount of floor space in which to tiptoe around, and that’s no good if you want a bedroom, and not simply a space where your bed takes over! Consider Single Beds instead. You can get plenty of room to stretch out with these, without compromising on how you use your room –giving you more space in which to get ready in the morning, too.
If you have a bit more floor space to play with however, and also if you happen to be sharing a bed with someone who won’t want to be tumbling out of Single Beds in the middle of the night because their peacefully slumbering partner has kicked them out, consider Double Beds. These can come in a range of sizes going up to California King size Beds, which are seventy two by eighty four inches. Some Double Beds can be bought as sofa beds too, which as the name suggests, can be folded up during the day to provide seating and extra space within the room, particularly useful if you are living in a bedsit or simply if you want to put one in the living room for when you have guests to stay. Of course the size of the bed will also depend on the size of the person and personal preference as well. While one person may be comfortable sleeping in average sized Double beds, another may not be so happy if his or her feet are hanging off the edge of the bed.
The next factor to consider is how healthy your bed will be for you. Poor sleeping conditions can contribute to a range of health problems which include back pain and broken sleeping patterns, so think carefully about the mattress you will be using on your bed, as it’s an investment –but change it as soon as you become aware that it needs replacing.
Lastly, consider your lifestyle. Choosing the right first bed for a child is incredibly important, as you’ll want to make sure that your child will be well rested, getting enough sleep and most of all not climbing into bed with their parents in the early hours because a poor mattress or bed is keeping them awake!
You may have started sleeping more, or less. Pregnancy or children jumping on the bed increases the strain on a mattress and when there are two people sharing it helps to take into account each person’s individual sleeping needs. Either way, when looking to purchase a new bed, listen to your body, as back pain or tingling arms or legs are good indicators that it’s time for a new mattress.
